How Matter Fabs Began

Jason and Trip

Jason and Trip always wanted to have a business together, but it was never the right timing — that is until Dan Shields presented his idea of the MatterVault™. Trip and Jason both thrive on the idea of building large scale companies that make a difference in the world around them.

Jason and Trip have similar stories. Both are family men, married, and they each have two children, one boy and one girl; they also both have dogs. They have always lived within 10 minutes of each other.

Our Leadership Team

At Matter Fabs, we employ the best people because we know that translates into creating the best products and services. Many of our staff also work with our team of companies, Vernick & Associates and Architectural Interior Restorations (AIR).

Trip Textoris

Trip is also owner of our two sister companies, AIR and Vernick & Associates. AIR provides building construction and renovation, while Vernick serves the Midwest with unique cleanroom designs. Trip purchased both from his father, John, who began training Trip at the age of 16, when he started as summer help. Trip learned the business from the bottom up, sweeping floors and cleaning the building.

He soon began training in carpentry, eventually working in the field on jobs with other employees. College called, and Trip majored in accounting, graduating in 2004. A few years later he joined AIR and then took over ownership when John retired. In his spare time, Trip likes long walks on the beach and loves pottery.

Jason LaPonza

Jason has been in the concrete, construction, and build industries for 20 years, and over those years has owned and operated large concrete/construction/build companies, along with many other companies. Jason and Trip have been best friends for over 25 years. They both grew up in families with construction backgrounds. Jason’s family has over 75 years of experience in owning and operating construction/build companies that started with his grandfather. Jason and his two brothers are still in business with their father today. In his spare time, Jason loves being with his family, and he enjoys all outdoor activities.

Dan Shields

Dan created, designed & initiated the patent for the all new patent pending MatterVault. He spent over three years in R&D for this new product and successfully completed the prototypes and product launch. The MatterVault has zero radiation leakage and is city code approved and commissioned for use by the state environmental protection, compliance, and public health divisions.

Dan works hand in hand with Matter Fabs on a daily basis and is a big part of the company and every job. Dan has spent 30 plus years in mechanical engineering and for the last 20 years has owned his own successful engineering and manufacturing company with multiple locations in the Detroit area. The company manufactures engineered automated specialty machines for the automotive, medical, aerospace, and many other fields.

Dan had to leave his company due to a serious car accident a few years ago. After a long partial recovery, Dan is continuing his engineering work, developing and creating new products like he has done throughout his career. Some of his inventions include machines that allow people with disabilities to work and make a salary. Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, three kids, his 90-year-old father, and his six-year old grandson at his farm just outside of Lansing, Michigan. He enjoys collecting vintage tools, stamps, comic books, and baseball cards as a hobby.

Jennifer Whitescarver

Jennifer runs the entire behind-the-scenes operations. Jen has worked with sister companies Vernick and AIR for the past 10 years. Jen is amazing at what she does and is a big asset to Matter Fabs. Jen is very social, loves her family, and loves to laugh and have fun.

Laura Speer Smith

With just over 25 years of experience. Laura graduated from Wayne State and Oakland University. Her work history includes employment with Henry Ford Hospital, Ascension & Bronson Hospitals as a radiation safety officer and diagnostic physicist. She also consults with facilities across the United States, testing radiation equipment, performing shielding designs, and providing radiation safety education programs. Laura loves what she does and has a passion for physics. She is a world traveler, recently visiting Japan, Cuba, and China. Laura is happily married to David and together they have five children.
